READING FC manager Ruben Selles was left ‘proud’ of his teams performance as his young side claimed their first win of the League One season.
Selles made a whole host of changes which saw the team take a fresh approach with plenty of youth in the starting eleven.
The boss confirmed that there were no new injury worries and that the changes were tactical.
“I’m very proud of the performance we put together.
“We put a performance together for 103 minutes. The team showed character, togetherness and got through some difficult situations and we got what we deserved.
“We have been talking about them (the young players) for the entire pre-season. They have been fantastic. They showed how good they are and how they can contribute.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re 18 or 32, if you do the proper things there is a place for you in this team.
“It was to make a game plan that shows our identity and try to win a football match and develop the squad.
“We have the situation where we are in a process and are a bit behind because of the challenges we’ve had this summer.
“We decided to go with a team that can bring more intensity to the game.
“The team as a collective showed a good performance and are defending well because they are defending big spaces.
“The only two players who are not fit to play are Sam Smith and Ovie Ejaria. All the others are fit and it’s my decision whether they are in the squad or not.”
The Royals boss also spoke about new signing Ben Elliott, who arrived on a three-year deal from Chelsea.
He continued: “Ben is first of all a good footballer. We have been watching his games with Chelsea. He has exactly what we need.
“He can read the game. His level of scanning before he gets the ball for a player of his age is top class. We will help him to develop in his defensive game.”
