You can make a career in the entertainment industry without having to act, sing or dance.
Behind every production is an army of people who bring films, musicals and plays to life…
…not least amongst them, the set designers and builders.
Have you ever wanted to see where your practical DIY skills could take you?
If so, Berkshire’s historic Woodley Theatre Company would love to hear from you!
The Theatre mounts 3 stage productions each year (in March, September and November).
In the period leading up to each show, their backstage team designs the sets – which can range from simple yet striking “black box” productions, to elaborate sets spanning more than one level.
The team then spends one day or night a week during this period constructing the sets, before transporting everything to Theatre’s popular venue The Oakwood Centre – where the stage is then transformed into the play’s setting.
While the team are unpaid, they can gain valuable production experience which might help them to develop their careers – either in DIY or in the production side of entertainment.
Additionally, volunteers have the opportunity to work as part of a friendly crew and to see their thoughts and ideas come to life for the enjoyment of audiences.
With productions restarting following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Theatre are keen to hear from anyone who might want to join their Team. DIY, practical skills and ideally a clean driving licence are preferable.
The Theatre also welcomes anyone who is interested in getting involved in productions, either on or off stage – and can be contacted at [email protected].
And if you’re interested in acting, details of upcoming auditions are contained on their website – http://www.woodleytheatre.org/auditions.html.
