Former Reading FC captain Liam Moore is set to miss the remainder of the season after suffering another injury setback.
Moore has had a long road to recovery since picking up a knee injury during last season’s loan spell at Stoke City.
The centre-back last played for Reading in December 2021 away at West Brom.
However, after being publicly stripped of the captaincy in January 2022, club owner Mr Dai released a club statement stating that the defender had requested to leave and subsequently lost his title as club captain.
Moore had been due to make his Royals return against Watford in the FA Cup third-round, but picked up a hamstring injury in training the day before the game.
After completing 45 minutes of action for the under 21s last week, Moore was due to return to the squad for last night’s game with Rotherham.
But manager Paul Ince confirmed that he had endured another setback and may have played his last game for the club.
“He’s had another setback and I think that could be Liam Moore (injured) for the rest of the season,” said Ince.
“It’s devastating news because he only played the other week for the U21s.
“We’re not sure what the injury is yet, but it’s not looking good for him, bless his soul.
“If anyone has tried so hard to get back on the pitch it is him.
“I’ve never seen a professional footballer do everything and anything to get back and play for this football club.
“It’s sad, sad news but hopefully he can let his body rest and hopefully go again next year.”
