A man who carried out underage sexual assaults over a 19-year period and had child porn images has been sentenced to eight years in prison and given additional year on extended licence.

On Friday, June 24, Malcolm Graham Thompson, of Brompton Close, Lower Earley, was found guilty by a unanimous verdict at Reading Crown Court of seven counts of sexual assault on a child under 13 after a five-day trial.

He also pleaded guilty to making indecent images of children and possession of an offensive weapon.

The sentence comes almost a year to the day that he was first charged and comes after an investigation by Thames Valley Police.

The 67-year-old was charged on June 29, 2015 and convicted on June 10 this year. The offences took place from 1980 to 1999 and involved two female victims in the Reading area.

Det Con Steve Merrington from the Child Abuse Investigation Unit said: “I would like to commend the victims and their families for their bravery throughout the criminal justice process. Nine years is a good result and justice has been served for very serious sexual offences against very vulnerable people.
