Wokingham MP Clive Jones has brought together MPs and parliamentarians from across the house to set up an all-party parliamentary group to support business in the Thames Valley.
The Thames Valley, and particularly Wokingham, is home to a vibrant and thriving business network, but this important sector has been lacking a voice in parliament, according to the MP.
Now, more than ever, businesses in Wokingham and across the Thames Valley need a voice advocating for their needs and raising their concerns in parliament.
Wokingham’s MP – the first chair of the new group – brought the MPs together with the purpose of providing leadership for the region’s businesses, highlighting the successes and growth of the Thames Valley.
On Monday, Jones held the inaugural meeting of the group, with MPs from Labour and the Conservatives in attendance.
He has set up the group in cooperation with the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce – who bring together business leaders and experts from across the region – after launching the group at its headquarters last week.
Jones said: “Wokingham is home to many successful and proud businesses, but for too long, they have been ignored by successive governments.
“That is why I have set this group up, to give businesses in the Thames Valley region a voice in parliament, and to showcase what they are capable of.
“I am also very proud to be elected as the chair, with the cross-party support of the region’s MPs.
“By bringing together parliamentarians, business and academia, we are providing a unique framework for commercially-focused action that will highlight the success of the Thames Valley, and showcase how we are, and can, provide the ideas and solutions to deliver productivity growth.
“I will keep working to support local businesses in Wokingham and across the region.”
