Two beautiful and joyful pieces of music are on the programme for a Palm Sunday performance.
Three hundred years separate the works, both titled Gloria.
One was written by 18th century Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi. The other is by living English composer John Rutter who wrote it in 1974.
Twyford Singers are singing excerpts from the pieces which both start with the words the angels sang announcing the birth of Jesus to the shepherds: ‘Gloria in excelsis Deo’ which in English is ‘Glory to God in the highest’.
The choir, directed by Helen Styles, will have top musician Robert Jones, who plays for St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street, accompanying them on the organ.
St Mary’s Church, Wargrave, is hosting the performance on Sunday, March 24 at 7pm.
The choir, which practices at St Mary’s Church, Twyford, during term times on Tuesday evenings, would love more people to join them.
They say they’re a friendly bunch and there’s no need to audition, or even read music. You just need to love singing.
The singers get lots of help to learn pieces at rehearsals under the guidance of musical director Helen Styles and with support from accompanist Judith Creighton. Online practice files are provided.
The choir especially needs more tenor and bass singers. For more details about the choir visit https://twyford-singers.org.uk
