A large part of the centre of Twyford was plunged into darkness on Monday evening.
A spokesperson for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue said: “At 6:59pm on Monday, January 12, we received reports of an electrical installation fire on London Road in Twyford.
“One Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue service crew from Wokingham Road fire station was sent to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the crew found one pole mounted electrical installation on fire, with SSE deactivating the electricity to this installation prior to their arrival.
“Firefighters used two hose reels to put out the fire and dampen down the area, before using a thermal imaging camera to monitor the temperature and ensure the scene was safe. The scene was then handed over to SSE.
“The crew were on scene for approximately 52 minutes.”
