ENGINEERS are currently fixing a faulty level crossing in Wokingham, which remains down and is causing traffic congestion in the area this evening.
A problem with the crossing in Easthampstead Road was first reported to Network Rail just after 4pm this afternoon, where an issue with one of the barrier arms has since been discovered.
As a result and because of safety reasons, the barriers have remained down, causing a back up of traffic in both directions.
A spokesman for Network Rail, however, explained how engineers are currently lifting the barriers manually in order to ease congestion in the area.
Queues are understood to be snaking back in both directions, with traffic backing up between the junctions for Waterloo Road and Peach Street in one direction and beyond Heathlands Road in the other.
It is not yet know how long the barriers will remain down and drivers are advised to seek alternative routes.
