BUDDING poets at a Lower Earley care home were given a chance to shine with a special day dedicated to creating verse.
Residents at Austen House in Kilnsea Drive enjoyed a discussion on favourite poems, and had recitals, while enjoying refreshments including cakes.
It was part of a National Poetry Day celebration and held earlier this month.
Sunita, who is the activities co-ordinator at Austen House, said residents love to write and listen to poetry.
“To discuss their favourite poems so National Poetry Day is a fantastic excuse for us all to spend the day with our noses in our favourite poetry books,” she added.
And Joleen Leung, operational manager, added: “Our residents have had a great day swapping their favourite poems and discussing what they love about them.
“It has been such a treat to immerse ourselves in the rich, evocative language of poetry – we have all found it so rewarding.”
