A section of the M4 motorway is expected to remain closed overnight following an incident this morning (Wednesday).
The eastbound carriageway between junction 13 (Chieveley) and junction 11 (Reading) remains closed after a lorry overturned at around 5am today.
The outside lane of the westbound carriageway is also closed past the scene.
A statement released by Highways England this afternoon said the closures were likely to remain in place overnight while a substantial oil leak is cleared and the eastbound carriageway is resurfaced. It is expected these repairs will last into the early hours of tomorrow morning.
A spokesperson said: “Highways England is working hard with its contractors and Thames Valley Police to reopen the M4 as soon as safely possible and is advising drivers to consider alternative routes or to delay their journey if possible.
“A clearly signed diversion is in place via the A34, A303 and M3. Drivers heading to London can also use the northbound A34 and M40 route.”
The driver of the lorry, a 49-year-old man from Essex, died following the collision. His next of kin have been informed.
Thames Valley Police is appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the incident to come forward.
Senior Investigating Officer, Ashley Hannibal of the serious collision investigation unit, based at Three Mile Cross, said; “Our thoughts are with the family at what must be a very difficult time for them.
“We are investigating this incident and would like to appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision itself to come forward.
