A medal awarded to a Wokingham man who was killed in action aged 20-years-old in the first world war will come under the hammer at a London auction next month.
Charles Albert Ballard was born in Wokingham on December 4, 1894 and having emigrated to Canada joined the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on December 1, 1914.
He served with the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles during the Great War on the Western Front, and was killed in action at Sanctuary Wood, Ypres, on June 5, 1916.
He is buried in Tyne Cot cemetery in Belgium. .
He is also named on the Wokingham war memorial in the town hall.
His British War Medal is set to be auctioned as part of a lot at Noonans Auction House in Mayfair on January 14, 2026, with an estimate of £70-90.
