A ROAD In Sindlesham which has been closed for several weeks is due to reopen this weekend, two weeks ahead of schedule.
Mole Road, between Mill Lane and Harrow Way, has been closed to all traffic since June 6 so that new drainage could be installed, its top layer reshaped and resurfaced, to help stop flooding along that stretch.
Wokingham Borough Council had set aside eight weeks to do the work, but the works only took six. The road is now set to reopen this Saturday, July 16.
The work focused on a 360-metre section of the road installing new drainage underneath the highway, running along the centre of it, in some places more than a metre down.
The surface of the road has been reshaped to help water drain off more easily, and the kerbs and path replaced.
During the road closure, the borough council also built a temporary access in Mill Lane for Nirvana Spa visitors while their Mole Road entrance was out of use.
The work was able to get ahead of schedule because the engineers did not come across unexpected problems hidden underground, as is usual in work of this type.
This project to give Mole Road improved flood protection is part of the council’s ongoing major maintenance programme for the borough’s highways.
