A MUDDY CHALLENGE for runners of all ages will take place next month in the grounds of Wellington College.
The Muddy Welly is a 10km or 5km run through muddy paths, woodland trails, private estate roads and across fields.
Now in its fifth year, the run takes place on Sunday, December 15. The event will raise money for Bloodwise — a charity supporting people with blood cancer — with runners encouraged to bring a £2 voluntary donation.
With medals at the finishing line, alongside mulled wine and mince pies the organisers at Barnes Fitness hope for a successful, family-friendly event.
Ellie Barnes, from Barnes Fitness said: “This is the first year that I’ve organised the event, but I’ve taken part in it lots before.
“For some people, this will be their first-ever 5k or 10k, but for others it may well be their 50th.
The event is open to runners of all abilities and will be well-marshalled to avoid anyone getting lost explained Ms Barnes.
The 5km run is open to those aged 8 and above, although children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
The minimum age for the 10km is 13. Dogs are welcome, provided they are kept on a lead.
Runners are asked to arrive by 9am latest with a 10am start for the main two events.
It costs £20 to take part in the 5km run and £23 for the 10km run.
There is also a shorter, half-mile run designed for younger children (with their parents and guardians). Entry for this route costs £5 on the day and starts at 9:45am.
Sports massage will also available on the day for a small cost, alongside a stall from Marlow-based company Runners Retreat.
Everyone who takes part will be awarded a medal on the day, and an iTAB engraved with their
name and finish time later in the week via post.
Barnes Fitness is encouraging runners to think green this year by bringing their own water bottle, and thermal cup for mulled wine.
There will also be a trainer recycling bin for any unwanted — but still usable — footwear.
This will be donated to The Cowshed after the event.
There is on-site car parking, bag storage, toilets and changing rooms available at the Wellington College.
The event is one of three running events organised by Barnes Fitness this winter.
The Winter Trail Run Series starts on Sunday, December 1 with the Mapledurham 10, followed by the Muddy Welly on Sunday, December 15. Completing the trio is the Gut Buster on Sunday, December 29.
