A murder investigation has been launched after the body of a woman was discovered near a towpath in Henley-on-Thames.
Thames Valley Police said the body was found off Phyllis Court Drive at about 07:50 GMT on Friday.
A 44-year-old man from Henley-on-Thames has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
The woman has not yet been formally identified.
Police have cordoned off areas around the Phyllis Court Club, with tape reportedly placed around the pavilion. The towpath opposite the club has also been closed, and rowers have been asked not to pass through the area while investigations continue.
Officers said there would be an increased police presence in the area as detectives carry out enquiries.
Det Insp Rob Underhill, of Thames Valley Police, said the investigation was in its early stages but reassured the public that there was no wider threat.
“The investigation is still in its early stages; however, an arrest has been made and we are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident,” he said.
“I want to reassure the community that there is no risk to the wider public.
“Members of the public are likely to see an increased police presence while we continue to investigate, and we would advise anyone with any concerns to please speak to one of our uniformed officers.”
