MUSICALS, music, some surprises, and new plays are all on the menu for the Theatre Royal Windsor this year.
For its spring and summer season, bosses are promising premieres, world-class productions and, for his fourth summer season, the return of Sean Mathias.
This year, he will direct two plays.
The first, Emlyn Williams’ Accolade is a gripping tale of ambition, scandal, and the harsh realities that lie beneath the surface of success. It will be performed from May 31 through to June 15.
Then, from October 4-19, he will direct a revival of Eduardo De Filippo’s Filumena, a comedy set in the balmy Neapolitan heat.
The popular Windsor On-Air strand returns with new performance, radio play style, of The Great Gatsby (February 13-17) and Lady Winderemere’s Fan (February 20-24).
Later this month, there will be the world premiere of Closure, a new thriller with an all-star cast that includes Susan Penhaligon and former Blue Peter presenter and panto professional Peter Duncan. It runs from February 28, through to March 9.
Calendar Girls The Musical will see Laurie Brett, Helen Pearson and Samantha Seager join the show, which retells – in music – how a Women’s Institute raised funds by creating a nude calendar, with sunflowers sparing the blushes.
Twelve Angry Men follows from March 26-30. This is a courtroom thriller that has picked up five-star reviews during its UK tour.
Berkshire-based Blackeyed Theatre will perform Oh What A Lovely War from April 2-6 – perfect for those studying it as school, this is a special production to mark its 60th anniversary.
Blood eating plants will be seen and heard as Little Shop of Horrors comes between June 18 and 22, while a celebration of Bollywood musicals follows from June 25-29, in Frankie Goes To Bollywood.
Another revival is Heathers The Musical. Just in time for the summer holidays, the new class of 2024 will make their debut in Windsor ahead of a new UK tour for the cult-teenage phenomena. This runs from July 24-27.
A community theatre production of The Addams Family will be open to anyone aged 12 or over, including adults. Based on the much-loved fictional family that have been seen in comics, TV, films, and video games, this is a chance to get involved and join the original Creepy and Kooky family on stage.
Rehearsals run from Monday, August 12, through to Tuesday, August 27, with curtain up on Wednesday, August 28, through to Saturday, August 31.
And one of the biggest whodunits of them all – The Mousetrap – is on a 70th anniversary tour, coming to the Theatre Royal Windsor between July 29 and August 3. The play, by Agatha Christie, is the longest running show in the West End, and famously asks its audiences not to reveal the killer.
For those who can’t wait, tickets are already on sale for this year’s pantomime, which will once again star Steven Blakeley and Kevin Cruise. This year, the show is Dick Whittington, and runs from November 22, through to January 12.
