THE NEW Bulmershe Leisure Centre will see a hoard of decorators, constructions workers and tilers this month, as the centre gets fitted out.
The new £14.5million centre in Woodley has a six-lane 25-metre swimming pool which is currently being tiled. Work is also taking place on the changing rooms, and the pool’s moveable accessible lift is due to be installed.
The first floor of the centre is being decorated and its door frames and screens fitted. Toilets and lockers are being fixed, and ceilings put up in all areas and light fittings installed.
The reception desk’s template is also going in. Mains electric is now on across the centre, and gas and water are being plumbed in. Work on external landscaping is also due to start.
The new centre will also have a teaching pool with movable floor, a bigger gym plus a ‘live well’ (long-term condition) gym, a four-court sports hall, and an additional studio and café.
“Every time I visit, there is something new and exciting being installed. Watching this new centre come to life is a pleasure and I cannot wait for our local residents to see it, use it, and enjoy all that it will offer,” said Cllr Bill Soane, Wokingham Borough Mayor.
Wokingham Borough Council hope that the new facility will benefit the whole community by providing up-to-date, accessible and flexible facilities, as well as preventative health services.
The centre is due to open in late spring and will be run by Places Leisure.
