Wokingham Borough Council has stressed that no decisions have been approved or agreed regarding the introduction of parking meters.
Last week we reported how an item on the agenda of a recent meeting of the ruling executive committee included reference to controls relating to on-street parking.
Cllr Stephen Conway, leader of Wokingham Borough Council, also confirmed the council was exploring its options, and it was a result of resident demands – but stressed no decision had been made.
This week, Cllr Paul Fishwick, responsible for roads, told Wokingham Today: “We are under increasing pressure from residents to change our resident parking schemes and how we manage parking in areas with high demand for on-street parking.
“Residents would like on-street parking to work better for them, including by allowing them to park near their homes, to allow for visitors, and to make parking fairer to all.
“We are working on a review of on-street parking and resident parking arrangements in those high demand areas, with the objective of making parking fairer for those who live in our towns, and to make parking accessible to all who need it.
“We are considering all options, and nothing has been agreed or approved.”
He confirmed that any proposals will be subject to a full consultation later this year.
