Following a 2p a litre price cut earlier this week, Asda has announced that this weekend it will be selling a litre of unleaded at its Lower Earley store for 99.7p.
The price reduction is only for this weekend and runs from Friday through to Sunday.
Diesel owners will also get a price cut – a litre of the black stuff will be 103.7p during the three-day price cut.
Asda will revert back on Monday to a market leading price of 101.7ppl on unleaded and 104.7 ppl on diesel.
The supermarket chain said the news is a another additional weekend boost for customers in the run-up to the festive season.
Andy Peake, Asda’s Senior Petrol Director said, “For the second time this week we’re giving drivers a festive fuel boost and investing in a further price drop. We’re adding a further boost by investing in a three day fuel price drop meaning drivers can now benefit from fuel as low as 99.7ppl in the crucial run-up to the festive period.”
The news comes in the wake of the RAC issuing a call for petrol retailers to pass on the reduction in the price of brent crude oil – they are calling for a 3p a litre drop for petrol prices and 5p for diesel.
“If retailers don’t pass on the savings quickly, they will be giving themselves an unpopular Christmas boost to profits by pocketing the extra margin when they should really be passing this on to their customers instead,” RAC spokesman Simon Williams told BBC News.
