Reading FC manager Noel Hunt admitted that there is a ‘strong possibility’ that the club will lose key players in the January transfer window.
With the takeover situation still not sorted and the club strapped for cash, it is expected that players will be sold next month.
Reading faced the same fate last year when defenders Tom McIntyre, Tom Holmes, Nelson Abbey and forward Caylan Vickers were all sold in the January window.
When speaking to BBC Radio Berkshire following a draw at Wycombe, Hunt said: “It is a strong possibility, we know that.
“We have a lot of great talent and desirable assets. If last January is anything to go by, that’s a sign.
“We have to keep focused on what we have in the building and fight tooth and nail to keep as many as we can.”
The Royals are still under a transfer embargo which means that they would not be able to replace any players that are sold.
Reading were only able to make one signing in the summer which was the acquisition of winger Chem Campbell on loan from Wolves until January. He is set to return to the Premier League side next month if an extension on his loan is not granted.
