Another Wokingham business has closed citing cost pressures, but has vowed to continue operations after relocating.
Mumbai Wokingham in Peach Street opened in 2020, promising Indian street food and classic flavours.
In an email to its customers, it said: “As you may know, we had plans to open the restaurant after more than five years of trading as a takeaway at 35 Peach Street in the town centre,..but we have decided to close due to the cost of running a high street shop.
“Our utilities were rising incredibly fast, high street rents are extremely high, wage costs have rocketed particularly after the last two budgets, food costs have soared and business rates continue to increase with no incentive from Wokingham borough council.
“This has created a perfect storm resulting in the decision
“Due to the continued rise in operating costs, we have made the difficult decision to close our takeaway in Wokingham.
“”This has not been an easy choice, and we want to sincerely thank every customer who has supported us, ordered from us, and helped build what Mumbai Wokingham stands for.
“Your loyalty and feedback have played a huge role in creating that name, and we are truly grateful.
“This is not goodbye.
“We are excited to share that we will be relocating to a new premises, where we plan to continue delivering the same distinctive flavours and quality you know and love.
“Follow us on our Facebook page and keep an eye on our website for updates over the next few weeks, where we’ll be sharing news about our relocation and reopening plans.
“Thank you once again for your support, encouragement, and love for our food. We look forward to welcoming you again very soon.”
