Prince Andrew interview: Was it the WokingHAM branch of Pizza Express?

The new Broad Street PizzaExpress

FOLLOWING revelations that Prince Andrew enjoyed a night at Pizza Express in Woking, social media has been awash with claims that our branch was given a royal visit.

During a BBC Newsnight special last night, the prince made the claim that he wasn’t at a party held in the home of Ghislaine Maxwell – the day he was alleged to have met a 17-year-old Virginia Giuffre (nee Roberts) at a party organised by paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

The prince said that on that day he had taken his daughter, Princess Beatrice, to the Woking branch of Pizza Express to celebrate her 13th birthday, before returning to their then home of Sunninghill Park, near Ascot.

People have taken to social media to express their disbelief over the prince’s story, with most correctly referring to the Woking branch the prince mentioned. However, some have opted for a bit of a Hawaiian, adding the ham to Woking, and confusing our Broad Street branch as the one 10 miles away.

Both branches are 10-and-a-half miles away from Prince Andrew’s then Sunninghill Park home.

BBC Radio 4 presenter Andrea Catherwood is one of those.

This Prince Andrew interview is far to similar to Andy Millman getting questioned by the priest in Extras. They both even lie about the holy parish of Wokingham. @rickygervais Amen to that.

That Wokingham branch is getting no more royal visits …

— rit748 (@rit748) November 16, 2019

@MrMichaelSpicer get it done. You have reached the point that your art is now a national treasure. In fact not doing a Pizza in Wokingham skit would cock the biggest snook ever at the friend of a paedophilic financier, COD is he not worth it? Ooh – dilemma

— Candy Razor (@CandyRazor1) November 16, 2019

While others pondered if it was the prince who had got it wrong

It will be interesting to discover if the branch of Pizza Express was actually in Wokingham rather than Woking. No doubt whichever branch’s staff back in the day will have remembered the celebrity highlight

My mum tells me he must have misremembered as no royal would go to Pizza Express Woking; must have been in Wokingham, she says. #Surreychat
