Young people from Dolphin School in Hurst have been building links with elderly people living with dementia.
Its ‘Time Bandits’ initiative has seen the school’s drama and music departments team up, with pupils from years seven and eight visiting Henley Manor Care Home to collaborate on a variety arts-based projects with some of the elderly residents.
According to the school, the aim is to explore and develop inter-generational relationships, and build understanding between young people and the elderly through the arts.
It also provides students with the opportunity to express themselves artistically, enhance their communicative and collaborative skills, whilst giving back to the wider community.
Dr Isabelle Latham, who holds a PhD in dementia care, is advising the school, and carrying out further research based on the project.
