Reading FC climbed into the League One play-off positions with a convincing victory over Cambridge United with a flurry of quick goals in the second-half.

The scoring was opened by Lewis Wing and added to quickly by Mamadi Camara before Wing netted his second with a sumptuous strike.

The result lifts Reading up to 6th place in the table on 30 points from 17 games.

Selles named a strong starting 11 following Sunday’s FA Cup match as Amadou Mbengue returned from his short injury lay-off, while Harvey Knibbs was on the bench.

Reading had more of the ball and the better of the play throughout the first-half but were unab;e to breach the Cambridge defence in a goalless opening 45 minutes.

But Reading’s quality would eventually tell early on in the second-half when the floodgates opened via Wing who drilled the ball into the bottom left-hand corner from 20 yards out.

Mamadi Camara made it two goals from two having scored in the eight goal thriller in the cup at the weekend when he showed great composure in the box to chop onto his right foot before powering the ball into the roof of the net.

The game was then put to bed by Wing just three minutes after Camara’s strike with the pick of the goals.

Having received the ball 25 yards from goal, with no hesitation, Wing curled an unstoppable effort beyond the keeper into the top right hand corner as he added to his collection of spectacular goals.

A comfortable last half an hour then ensued as Reading went on to pick up their 9th league win of the campaign.

Next up for Reading is a visit to current league leaders Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
