A COMMUNITY celebration of Diwali and Dussehra is taking place this Saturday.
The team behind the Reading Mela is organising the Reading Dussehra Diwali Festival to mark the festival of light, Diwali and the victory of good over evil, the festival of Dussehra.
Traditionally on Dussehra, the effigy of demon king Raavan is burnt, which will be the focal point of this event followed by a fireworks display.
The centre stage will feature various cultural performances and there will also be a Ramayan play, Diwali shopping stalls and funfair rides.
Food and refreshments will be available from a range of vendors offering seasonal produce.
The free celebration will take place between noon and 6pm at Reading Cricket Club in Sonning on Saturday, October 15.
Admission is free but the organisers have created a crowdfunding page to try make it an annual event.
