Reports suggest that Mark Bowen will be appointed as the new Reading manager in the coming days after Jose Gomes’ sacking last week.
Bowen joined the Royals in March 2019 under the role of technical director before undertaking the position of sporting director in the summer.
The Royals sacked previous boss Jose Gomes, who was in charge for 10 months, after Reading fell into the relegation places prior to the international break after a 1-0 defeat away at Bristol City.
If appointed, the managerial job at Reading will be Bowen’s first role as a number one having been assistant manager to Mark Hughes for the majority of his coaching career, including spells at Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City, Fulham, Queens Park Rangers, Stoke City and Southampton.
Bowen enjoyed a long playing career, making just under 400 appearances for Norwich City before seeing out his professional career at Reading.
The Welshman is expected to take charge of Reading’s Championship fixture this weekend as they host Preston North End at the Madejski Stadium.
