Reading FC legend Phil Parkinson is under increasing pressure at AFC Wrexham after their summer of spending in the Championship.
Having helped Wrexham to earn three successive promotions under their ambitious Hollywood owners, the Royals legend is now facing questions over his future after a disappointing start to the season.
Wrexham’s owners have invested heavily, and with great success, since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney purchased the club in 2021.
After earning promotion to the Championship last season, Wrexham spent more than £30million in the summer as they look to compete in England’s second tier.
They also purchased striker Sam Smith from Reading last January for a reported £2million.
However, Parkinson’s side are finding life in the Championship difficult so far as they have managed to pick up just four points from their opening five matches.
Reports have suggested that Wrexham’s board will hold talks over Parkinson’s future at the club.
The 57-year-old manager spent most of his playing career with Reading and became a club legend after spending more than a decade at the club.
He joined from Bury in 1992 and went on to play 361 times for the Royals.
After leaving Reading in 2003, he went straight into management and joined Colchester City and has since managed Hull City, Charlton Athletic, Bradford City, Bolton Wanderers, Sunderland and Wrexham, where has been since 2021.
