Reading FC interim manager Paul Ince admitted that ‘the club has got to change in a lot of places’ to progress in the future.
Sitting down to speak on his own future and the future of the club ahead of the final home game of the season on Saturday against West Bromwich Albion, Ince said that he is set for talks with the club’s owners next week.
“I’ll sit down with the owner and see where they are taking this club,” said Ince.
“It’s a fantastic club with fantastic people and fantastic fans.
“It’s going to be a busy summer. It’s going to be a tough season next year. I thought this season was tough but next season is going to be even tougher.
“We’ve got to make sure we get the right people into the club, the right players with the right identity, philosophy and the type of players we want.
“I’m happy to sit down with the owners and have a conversation. We’ve got to have a project. This club has got to change in a lot of places and I’ve seen that in the last two months
“We’ve got to be willing to change as a club. There’s been a togetherness in the last four or five weeks with the players and the fans.”
Ince reiterated that if he is in charge next season, that the club has to be wiling to accept change ahead of another transfer window restricted by an embargo.
He continued: “Also the fans are frustrated when they don’t know what is happening going forward. You can’t fix anything in the short term.
“As long as we’ve got a project and we know where we’re going, and the fans know where we’re going, we can all stick together.
“The best thing for me is to sit down with the owner and see how we are going to take the club forward and if we are going to take the club forward.
“I’m hoping it will be next week because I’ve got to make decisions.
“There are players here out of contract and I’ve got to look at who I want to stay if I’m in charge and what players I want to bring in.the season starts early and pre-season is around the corner. We all need to know where we are.
“Hopefully next week we will decide where this club is going.
“We need to get that message to the fans where the club is going in the next three or four years.
“This club has got so much potential if it’s done the right way. And if it’s done the right way, why wouldn’t you want to be a part of it.
“With the embargo we’ve got next year and with the budget being one of the lowest in the Championship, can we offer these players we want to keep the right wages to stay. That will be the difficult part.
“We can make offers but players can wait longer until they tell us so we can be in limbo for a period of time.”
