Generous residents across Wokingham borough have been thanked for their help in recording another record year for the Wokingham poppy appeal.
Appeal organiser David Dunham told Wokingham Today that this year’s appeal has topped £83.300 – equal to a more than 5% increase on last year’s totals.
David said: “I am very pleased, and I’d like to express my sincere thanks to everyone who has donated to this year’s appeal.
“It has surpassed my expectations.
“I also want to say a big thank you to our volunteer collectors, Barkham Hookers, Wokingham Borough Council, Wokingham Town Council, our supermarkets, shops, businesses and schools that hosted a collection point.”
He also offered his thanks to Pret, who provided space in the Market Place for the pop-up appeal shop.
He revealed how schools had contributed more than £8,400 to this year’s appeal, and noted how contactless donations accounted for more than 40% of this year’s donations.
