REMI ALLEN admits she had a “difficult” season after leaving home town club Birmingham City Ladies to join Reading FC Women.
Midfielder Allen has become a key member of Kelly Chambers’ side since completing the switch to the Royals.
But after leaving the Blues and then picking up an injury shortly after signing, Allen says the season did not quite pan out as hoped.
“It was really frustrating coming in and getting injured,” Allen told The Wokingham Paper.
“Since I’ve got myself back I’m loving every minute of it.
“It’s really enjoyable and I feel like a key member of the side now which is brilliant.
“The girls have welcomed me in so I couldn’t be happier.”
OPINION: Why Kelly Chambers and Reading Women deserve huge credit
Despite being a regular in the Birmingham side at the beginning of the season, Allen said the decision to leave was not a surprise.
“It wasn’t out of the blue,” she said.
“It was my decision.
“I felt it was the right decision as well so no, it definitely wasn’t out of the blue, it was always coming.”
She added: “To be honest this season has been difficult.
“It’s not been the most enjoyable of seasons for myself for many reasons.
“It’s always hard leaving one side and coming to another side in the middle of a season, not knowing anyone and not having that time in pre-season to settle in.
“It’s something I’ve definitely learned lessons from.
“I’ve definitely become almost a stronger person from it and I feel that I’m in the best place now.
“I think it worked out well in the end.”
Reading Women ended their season with defeat to Doncaster Belles and are now on a break until the FA WSL 1 spring series begins in February.
