Plans have been approved for a change of use of a town centre retail unit.
As revealed by Wokingham Today in December 2023. landlords Columbia Threadneedle had applied for the change at Unit 2a, Bridge Retail Park on Finchampstead Road. The unit is currently occupied by Carpetright.
The application sought permission for a change of use to a mixed restaurant/takeaway use. It said this was to “improve the re-letting potential of the unit.”
The application noted that no physical work would be carried out on the property.
The application stated: “The existing Retail Park has a car park comprising 77 car parking spaces, which can be accessed via an existing priority junction from Finchampstead Road, and which benefits from a right turn lane facility.
“The proposal would likely result in a slight increase in parking demand in the region of a few vehicles which would have no material effect on the existing car park.”
Neither Columbia Threadneedle or Carpetright responded to requests for comment.
The decision to approve the application was made on May 10, and included stipulations about the hours of use, and noted that the unit could not be used solely as a takeaway.
