My family and I felt very “Lucky”, to be invited to the eagerly anticipated and newly opened Lucky’s restaurant in Elms Walk.
When we entered the restaurant we were struck by the breathtaking design of the interior. Luxurious fabrics, imaginative wall designs, car tyres adorned with foliage, an indoor pergola covered with pink flowers- bringing the outdoors indoors, American diner style seating and paintings paying homage to iconic British culture. Husband and wife owners Swapna and Venu have created an environment that appeals to all ages.
The menu is quite extensive, mainly appealing to meat eaters, but there are some vegetarian options. A children’s menu is also available.
For starters we decided to share the Chilli Cheese keema nachos £8.75 crispy tortilla chips grilled with Mozzarella cheese, Jalapenos and chilli con carne, drizzled with salsa. They were very moreish inseed and and were swiftly devoured by my hungry family. You are able to order on the app or alternately with a server.
For the main course my husband chose the Grilled portuguese chicken burger £8.95 ,a succulent and peri sauce coated chicken breast grilled to perfection topped with onions, fresh crispy lettuce, jalapenos, melted cheese and Lucky’s signature mayo on toasted glazed sesame bun, with fries on the side £3.95 My husband was very impressed and gave it a 10/10 for taste, and presentation. high praise indeed.
I chose the grilled peri peri wrap £8.95, fresh chicken strips grilled to perfection in peri peri spices topped with jalapenos, onions, lettuce, mayonnaise and grated cheese wrapped in toasted tortilla. The chicken, which was tender and plentiful with just the right kick of chilli pepper. The lettuce was crunchy and the tortilla perfectly warmed. I was feeling quite peckish, so I also ordered a side of fries for £3.95, although my eyes were bigger than my belly as the wrap was very filling.
My ravenous son, being unable to choose between chicken and beef, chose the best of both! the Hunger Buster Burger £13.95, 150 grams fresh chicken fillet topped with a 6oz grilled Angus beef patty, more pulled BBQ chicken on top to make it huge, with melted cheddar cheese, crunchy lettuce and their signature burger sauce. Served on a toasted sesame bun.
There is an option to customise your burger with regards to the sauce, and whether you wish to add another patty, an additional chicken fillet, Jalapenos, chicken rings etc, he chose additional fries. The rate in which his meal was devoured I knew it was a hit! “Just what I needed, food heaven” was his comment. He also mentioned that the beef burger was the best beef he had eaten in a long time and that Lucky’s was now his top favourite place in the Borough for Burgers.
My Daughter chose the Halloumi Burger £9.95, again there is the option of paying an additional £3.99 and turning it into a meal whereby you are able to chose whether you would like it normal or spicy, with or without salad, and additions such as hash browns, and then fries. She enjoyed her meal very much.
My husnand and I were too full for desert, but kids being kids still managed to have that extra little bit of space left for a sweet treat.
My daughter chose the Lotus Biscoff Milkshake £5.45 Caramelised Lotus Biscoff blended thick whippy ice cream, topped with chocolate sauce and whipping cream. I was allowed a taste, it was very nice and thick with a perfect but not too overpowering taste of Biscoff.
My son opted for the Biscoff cheesecake £6.95 which was creamy and thick but not too overly sweet. He will definitely order it again.
It’s worth mentioning that Lucky’s has an extensive drinks menu; white, rose, red, sparkling wines and champagne. There is an amazing cocktail offering, as well as Mocktails. On offer is a wide variety of Gins, rum, vodka, both draught and bottled beers, shots and liqueurs.
It would be fair to say that Lucky’s surpassed our expectations, in terms of food, ambience and service. We all agreed that is just what Wokingham needed, a great fun family restaurant for all ages, great food and great atmosphere, and most definitely the best burgers in town! We would highly recommend a visit.
