REVIEW: Unique dining as Zizzi’s Wokingham reopens after revamp

Discover a unique dining experience at Zizzi’s Wokingham restaurant, where hanging plants and light, bright interiors create a vibrant and relaxed pace, perfect for any occasion.

Located right off Broad Street, next to the High Street, it’s the ideal spot to relax and refuel after exploring the old market town.

Having recently flung open its doors after an amazing internal revamp, myself and my family were delighted to be able to sample their new menu.

On entry, we were greeted by manager Samantha, who was the perfect hostess.

Having been to Zizzi’s many times in the past I was surprised by its new stunning interior, especially an amazing mural across the wall created by talented line artist Jeru Nomi.

The menu looked delicious and featured fresh Pasta Superiore, indulgent pizzas, with vegan-friendly options and gluten free choices.

I eventually settled on Mushroom Brindisiwhich I shared with my husband. Large Mushrooms roasted on freshly baked bread, in a creamy Portobello & Porcini mushroom sauce, topped with melted scamorza cheese and crispy sage.Rich and full of flavour, this was a wholesome and filling entree.

My children shared the King Prawn Spiedini with Smoky Tomato Sauce, new to the menu. It was a real showstopper.

Harissa-marinated king prawns roasted on a skewer with smoky tomato sauce to pour over, definitely big enough to share as a starter. My children enjoyed it immensely. The food was lovely and arrived in a timely manner based on how busy the restaurant was.

I was really in the mood for fish, so for my main course I chose the Mediterranean Sea Bass.

Served with a warm Mediterranean-style vegetable salad of courgette ribbons, fire-roasted peppers, green beans, artichokes, black olives, salad potatoes and Sunblush tomatoes toes. The skin was perfectly crispy and a lovely contrast to the perfectly seasoned, mild and tender flesh.

I enjoyed this dish immensely and would definitely choose it again.

My Husband opted for the Beef Brisket & Venison Stufato, a perfect comfort food for a chilly winter’s night. A slow-cooked beef brisket and venison stew, made with Chianti wine, baby onions and potatoes.

All nestled in a dough bowl with crispy scamorza and sage. The beef and venison were so tender they were perfectly falling apart at the fork, a hint of Chianti wasn’t too overpowering, the crunchy dough bowl was very satisfying and the crispy scamorza cheese added a touch of Italian culinary magic to the dish.

My son, after much deliberation, chose the Pan-Fried Salmon & Pesto Risotto £ a rich, creamy risotto which was topped with a pan-fried salmon fillet, Genovese pesto, fresh spinach and courgette ribbons. This dish as expected was a real hit with him.

My daughter chose the Pizza lover Rustica Pinoli. The open kitchen allowed us to watch her pizza being crafted, from the dough being stretched to the goats cheese, mozzarella, caramelised balsamic onions, Sunblush tomatoes, pine nuts, fresh basil and riserva cheese.toppings strategically placed on top and then into the pizza oven, hey presto!

It was enormous and whilst very much enjoyed, far too much for her to finish.

We were presented with the dessert menu, myself and my husband were too full, but of course the children still managed to find the space for one.

My teenage Son, the cheesecake connoisseur, chose the Honeycomb Cheesecake. I was allowed a spoonful to sample. The filling was smooth and creamy but not too sweet, the biscuit base was perfectly crunchy with chunks of milk chocolate covered honeycomb, accompanied with salted caramel gelato, salted caramel sauce and smashed honeycomb. “Oerfect” was his comment as he devoured the last spoonful.

Our daughter chose Zillionaire’s Fudge Cake, a Warm chocolate fudge cake layered with salted caramel sponge, finished with honeycomb pieces. All she could say was, “it’s a winner”.

The Service was warm and friendly, with staff working hard to ensure you have a memorable meal. The atmosphere was relaxed, the interior beautiful with a nod to Wokingham seen on the walls, which we thought was a lovely touch. Zizzi are currently offering an extensive three course Christmas Menu until the January 5.
