The MP for East Reading has expressed his concern over the changes to the A329M.
Writing on his Facebook page, Rob Wilson MP said that he had received a number of complaints from his constituents regarding the recent changes to the motorway.
His comments come a week after Wokingham MP John Redwood demanded urgent answers from Highways England over the changes.
Mr Wilson said: “I have received a number of emails from Reading East constituents regarding the new layout of the A329M, both in terms of the safety and the congestion. This section of road is not in my constituency, but I have already written to Highways England expressing the concerns of my constituents and will post an update once I have received a reply.
“My letter to Highways England explained that my constituents have reported congestion has increased considerably since these changes to the layout of the A329M were implemented, which is impacting journey times and causing major inconvenience on what appears to be a daily basis.
“Moreover, there have also been complaints about the signage that is in place, with my constituents arguing that current provision is completely inadequate and are fearful that without urgent remedial action, there is increased likelihood of a serious traffic collision. Indeed, my constituents have already noted what they believe to be a significant increase in road traffic collisions and argue that these have likely been caused in part by the junction alterations.
“The fact that the safety of the new layout has been called into question by my constituents suggests that there are outstanding issues that need to be addressed. As such, I sincerely hope that these concerns will reviewed without delay By Highways England and I look forward to hearing from them in due course with a full update.”
