Free agent Charlie Adam joins Reading on a one-year deal as the Royals complete their third signing of the summer.
The 33-year-old midfielder was available on a free transfer having left Stoke City at the end of last season.
Adam made his name in England as he was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year for the 2009/10 season as he helped Blackpool win promotion to the Premier League, scoring in the Championship play-off final against Cardiff City.
The Scottish international enjoyed a brilliant debut season in the top flight with Blackpool which earned him a move to Liverpool in July 2011. He won the League Cup in his only season at the Reds before moving to Stoke City in August 2012, where he played for seven seasons.
Chief Executive Nigel Howe said: “A player with both Championship and Premier League experience, not to mention pedigree at European and international level, Charlie Adam can play a very valuable role within what is a relatively young first team squad at Reading. I look forward to seeing him represent the Royals this season.”

“Leaving Stoke after seven years, it’s been a long summer but when I came to meet the owner I felt it was a project that I want to be apart of.
“We’ve got a young squad and I think the experience and knowledge I have will help these younger players develop. The burning desire to win stays with me and I want to try and play as well as I can.
“I want to be one of the senior players helping the young players to do the right things and to be a good professional at the club.
“It’s a new season and there needs to be a different mindset, we want to try and aim as high as we can and do as well as we can.”
