A SCHOOL could receive up to £100,000 to help fund an improvement project – but they will need to be quick as registrations close at the end of the month.
Wellington College in Crowthorne is inviting applications for its Big Ambition Grant.
The grant is in addition to its Local Schools Fund, which offers awards of up to £20,000 for primary schools and £40,000 for secondary schools, all within five mile distance of the Dukes Ride school.
Wellington College says it hopes to make nine such awards this year, and when it has done so it will have donated more than £1.5 million to more than 35 schools since 2020.
Projects funded by the fund include the construction of an external classroom with a library and reading space at Wooden Hill Primary and Nursery School in Bracknell and a new sensory room and therapeutic space for pupils at College Hall in Wokingham.
The projects are proposed by schools.
Wellington says its Big Ambition Grant is an additional one-year-only fund intended to help a school achieve a substantial, extraordinary improvement.
It recognises that while the usual awards enable practical, sometimes urgent and often delightful projects, a larger budget could help a school to deliver something transformational for its pupils.
“At a time when funding in the state sector is tighter than ever, this is an initiative of which are very proud and to which we remain whole-heartedly committed,” said James Dahl, Master of Wellington College.
The grants are funded by Wellington College’s commercial activities and are run as a competition after feedback from schools confirmed this would be the fairest way to allocate the limited budget available.
The 46 schools meeting the eligibility criteria this year have already been invited to participate by Wellington College and they have until Thursday, February 29, to submit their initial registration.
