Wokingham’s first map highlighting some of the retailers and prominent landmarks was launched last month, and is already proving popular with visitors and residents.
The map has been produced by artist Vic Delaney, and was commissioned by town centre gallery owner Richard Young.
It features 39 independent businesses who contributed towards the project.
A total of 50,000 copies of the map have been printed, each folding down to a handy pocket size, and they are also displayed in participating businesses.
The map also includes signposts to a number of attractions outside the town.
Copies are available in some hotel receptions, at the town hall and local libraries.
Richard said: “We created the map to raise awareness of a diverse selection of independent businesses and attractions, both for residents and visitors.
“We’re thrilled with the feedback we’ve had and thankful to everyone who’s picked one up.
“We’re lucky to have such a vibrant community of independent businesses, and this is a great way to help more people discover them.”
He added that whilst being artistic, interesting and fun, business maps are not new, although ours stands out from all others as being far more artistic and informative.
“We want it to be valued, collectable and not perceived as an advertisement or flyer.
“It’s also been an excellent way in bringing our high street business community closer together.”
He thanked Vic for the artwork, Wokingham Borough Council for sponsoring the leaflet holders, Jay Printer for undertaking the printing, Blandy and Blandy who have installed a large feature map in its reception, and the 39 Wokingham businesses who have supported the map.
