A SELF-proclaimed ‘chatterbox’ has raised more than £700 for Children in Need by keeping quiet for an hour.
Eight-year-old Nella Forgan-Thrower, who attends St Paul’s Junior School in Oxford Road, pledged to stay silent for an entire hour on Friday, November 13 to raise money for children less fortunate than herself.
Proud mum Tanya said: “Neela realises lucky she is and we educate her to be very grateful for having a roof over her head, food on the table and a healthy body – not everyone has that gift in life.”
Tanya said that Neela found the first 40 minutes of the challenge relatively easy, but struggled for the last 20 minutes.
She said: “Neela was wriggling around on the floor and was bursting to speak by the time the hour was up.
“She was amazed at how much she raised! Every morning she kept checking the total. Neela made a video and I posted it on Facebook, she got many, many donations from friends and family.”
Children in Need raised a record-breaking £37.1million this year, with the televised event watched by more than 7 million people on Friday evening. Money raised goes towards helping children with disabilities and those from disadvantaged backgrounds across the UK.
