A WOKINGHAM secondary school held its presentation evening last week.
More than 130 students received awards for progress and achievement in academic studies, sports, and the arts, at St Crispin’s School.
Deputy mayor of Wokingham Borough Cllr Adrian Mather and Wokingham Town Mayor Cllr Sally Gurney both attended the event.
Journalist Musharaf Asghar, and keynote speaker for the presentation evening shared his story with students and their parents, and helped the school celebrate its pupils’ accomplishments.
Known as ‘Mushy’, the 24 year old, and youngest of five siblings,is a professional speaker with a stammer.
His experiences were shared on Channel 4’s documentary series Educating Yorkshire.
Since then, he devotes his time to spreading awareness about stammering, and motivating those who feel life has set them back, to be resilient in the wake of their vulnerability.
In his talk to the students and parents, he shared how he had overcome his stammer to become a keynote speaker and how students can overcome any obstacles they may face.
St Crispin’s headteacher, Mr Hinchliff, said: “The Presentation Evening was a wonderful evening to celebrate the successes of so many.
“We are so proud of our students.”
