The Twyford cousin of the submariner Hamish Harding who was killed with four others while diving down to the wreck of the Titanic, was among those who played at a fundraising concert that lasted 48 hours.
Kathleen Cosnett, 69, a keen musician, went along to St Mary’s Church in Winnersh, on Saturday, July 1.
It was organised by Peter Lewis, a Winnersh flautist and former Welsh Guards musician, with the aim of supporting First Days Children’s Charity, and contribute to repairs to two local parish churches.
“I introduced myself as the cousin of Hamish Harding and then played several tunes on my recorder in memory of dear Hamish,” Mrs Cosnett said.
“It would have been his birthday a week before so I included Happy Birthday for him. The other tunes included Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. It was good to join in there and help such a good cause.”
Mrs Cosnett’s daughter Lucy, 38, Mr Harding’s goddaughter, has called for a full investigation into what went wrong with the submersible.
The US Navy said it detected sounds “consistent with an implosion” shortly after the sub lost contact during a descent to the Titanic wreck at 3,800m (12,467ft) below sea level.
