A LOCAL HOSPICE was overwhelmed with financial support from Tesco’s Bags of Help award.
The Sue Ryder Wokingham Day Hospice won both the May and June bags earlier this year, achieving a grand sum of £3,780.
The money was used to fund a nurse for 29 days. Although the hospice receives some funding from the NHS, however, they have to rely on raising an approximate £1.2 million to cover their full costs. Currently, it costs £13,000 to run the hospice across West Berkshire.
Louise Jedras, Community Champion from Tesco had the opportunity to visit the hospice and learn about the services and support provided by Sue Ryder.
Abi Hurst, Community Fundraiser at the Wokingham hospice said: “It was so lovely to have Louise come over to the hospice and see our services first hand.
“She met our staff nurse Kirsty and we explained in depth all about what we do and the services we provide at the day hospice and in the local area.
“We really appreciate schemes such as Bags of Help because not only does it help us raise vital funds, but it also creates more awareness about our services in the local area.”
The Sue Ryder Wokingham Day Hospice is based on the grounds of Wokingham Community Hospital and is the base for our day therapy and community services in the local area.
It is a satellite site of the Duchess of Kent Hospice in Reading, a 15-bed in-patient unit that offers around the clock, palliative care for those with life-limiting conditions such as cancer and heart failure.
