Holme Grange School has announced details of its upcoming SustainFest, a sustainable festival, in collaboration with Wellington College, that is aimed at raising awareness, celebrating sustainable practices, and inspiring positive change within our community.
Preparations for the festival are well under way which will take place on June 20, within the grounds of Holme Grange School.
SustainFest is described as a community-driven initiative that seeks to bring together a diverse audience, including local businesses, parents, students, and organisations.
The festival will showcase sustainable products, services, and initiatives, encouraging the community to explore eco-friendly alternatives.
Students from Holme Grange School alongside those from visiting schools, will actively participate in a series of engaging workshops.
These workshops will provide hands-on experiences and practical knowledge about eco-friendly practices such as composting, upcycling, energy conservation, and gardening.
By involving students in these activities, SustainFest aims to inspire the next generation to become environmental stewards and make a positive impact on our planet.
In addition to the workshops, the festival will continue beyond the school day where SustainFest will feature a wide range of activities and attractions, including stalls and exhibits from local businesses, artisans, and eco-friendly vendors.
The school community will have the opportunity to learn about sustainable products, organic food, recycled art, and eco-fashion. Drama students will also present short plays related to sustainability, and rock bands will perform eco-themed songs. A highlight of the festival will be an upcycled fashion showcase, demonstrating creativity and sustainability.
SustainFest aims to foster connections between businesses and environmentally conscious consumers. Everyone will have the opportunity to engage directly with vendors, learn about sustainable options, and make informed choices.
Networking opportunities will encourage collaboration and knowledge-sharing among participants.
Leanne Hughes, sustainability lead and organiser of the festival at Holme Grange School, said: “We firmly believe that collective action leads to meaningful impact.
“”By coming together as a community, we can drive change and contribute to a greener, more sustainable future.
“SustainFest will inspire others to adopt eco-friendly practices and create a ripple effect beyond our school and into the wider community.”
