A PROJECT to upgrade water pipes in Woosehill is preparing to move into its final stages, with temporary traffic lights in place as a result.
South West Water said in a statement that the £300,000 project is three weeks ahead of schedule, but to help get the project over the finish line it needs to repair the road surface on the Woosehill Spine Road.
As a result, there will be three days of temporary lights between the junctions of Heron Road and North Way from Wednesday, January 23. Then the lights will be relocated to the junction of Woosehill Spine Road and Dorset Way.
And commuters are assured by South East Water that the lights will either be manually controlled or removed at peak traffic times.
South East Water said that the project has replaced an old and burst-prone water main which caused customers in the area to go without drinking water when it needed repairing. It is part of £424 million investment in its water network.
South East Water project manager Jeremy Dufour said: “We’re pleased with the progress we have made on this project and we are still working three weeks ahead of our planned schedule.
“However, following the installation of the new pipeline it has become clear that further work is required to the road surface on Woosehill Spine Road before the project can fully complete.”
