SHOPPERS at a Wokingham supermarket can pick up a great read along with their groceries, while supporting a local charity.
Community champion at Tesco Wokingham Louise Jedras has set up a community bookshelf where books can be dropped off and picked up by someone else for a donation.
“The book shelf is going tremendously well,” she said.
“It’s located just after the checkouts, near counter 13.
“Customers are being very generous, and they’re curious to know what’s in there.
“Sometimes people are dropping off books by the trolley load.”
The community fundraiser has just completed two months of supporting the Ollie Young Foundation.
“I’ll soon be presenting a cheque to the organisation’s founder, Sarah Simpson,” Ms Jedras continued.
“Now we’re supporting the WADE centre, which provides day care for the elderly, on Reading Road.
“Please come along and have a rifle through the wild and wacky selection of books we have.
“There’s something for everyone.
“Select what you want and put a donation in the goblet, it all goes to a good cause.”
People are asked not to leave their donations beside the bookshelf.
“Please deliver them to the customer service desk,” continued Ms Jedras.
“Don’t worry about putting them on the book shelves.
“I’ll sort through them and be the librarian.”
Books can be delivered to the Wokingham Tesco customer service desk to the left, inside the main entrance.
Those on the community bookshelf can be taken for a donation.
