POLICE have issued a warning after more distraction burglaries have been reported in the borough.
And to help residents, they are reminding them that distraction thefts occur when someone turns up unannounced and intends to trick their way into a home.
If you are not expecting anyone, Thames Valley Police urge residents to check the back door is locked and the key out before answering. They also advise checking through a spy hole or window to see who is at the door.
ID should be checked carefully. You can ring the company to verify the caller – but never call a number on the card as this may be faked.
Bogus callers may claim to be from the council, police or utility companies. They may also pose as builders or gardeners. You should never agree to have work completed by someone who is just passing by.
If you think work needs to be done, get at least two quotes from trusted companies.
If you suspect a caller is bogus, you should report it on the Thames Valley Police website or by dialling 101. If they persist or become threatening you should call 999 immediately.
