Council officers were applauded for their work at the recent general election at Wokingham Borough Council’s recent full council meeting.
Councillor Imogen Shepherd-Dubey, the executive member for finance and governance, said: “I doubt if anyone in this chamber will have missed the fact that since the last time this Council met, we have had a general election.
“While I know that there will be a detailed report on the election from officers at some point, I think we can all now recognise that there was a considerable amount of effort on their part, and on what we can hopefully agree was a very successful election.
“Nearly 100,000 votes were cast over the two constituencies, and the Wokingham Borough Council team has had to manage both general election counts in the same space for the first time.
“I think I can speak for all of us in thanking all of our officers involved in seamlessly bringing this spectacular democratic achievement and an undeniable result.”
