TRADING STANDARDS have seized illegal vapes from two stores in Wokingham borough.
Officers from the Public Protection Partnership visited 24 stores as part of a campaign to crack down on the illicit smokes on sale in West Berks, Bracknell Forest and Wokingham.
A quarter of stores were selling non-compliant vapes and a total of 787 illegal vapes were seized.
The PPP says that many vaping products do not meet the requirements of the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016. The main area of non-compliance found during these visits was with regard to the capacity of the vapes, with tank sizes exceeding the 2ml permitted by the regulations. This is the equivalent of 600 puffs.
The vapes should not contain nicotine in excess of 20mg/ml, but they must be labelled with a UK or EU address.
The vapes seized did not comply with one or more of the above areas.
