WALKERS in a Wokingham green space can now find out about animals and plants in the area, thanks to the efforts of volunteers.
Friends of Fox Hill has commissioned a pair of information boards which have been created and installed in the woods.
The community group is devoted to conserving a small woodland beside Woosehill.
The opening was attended by the group’s volunteers, representatives from Wokingham Borough Council and from Wokingham Town Council, and groups that have been involved in the creation and installation of the two boards.
Chair of Friends of Fox Hill Tim Lloyd, thanked everyone involved.
“This project has been a long time in the making,” he said.
“I’d like to thank Wokingham Town Council for contributing half the cost of the board, and Wokingham Men’s Shed for constructing it, Wokingham artist Vick for providing the artwork, and Richard Westwood from Countryside Services for advising us about conservation work and for installing the boards.”
Mr Lloyd also thanked Councillor Ian Shenton and Councillor Sarah Kerr, regular volunteers who contribute to the hands on work to maintain the site.
Wokingham Borough Council owns the conserved woodland,
There are hopes that the surrounding privately owned area may one day be opened up for public access.
One of the two new boards is sited at the entrance to Fox Hill opposite the playground on Dorset Road.
It was unveiled by Wokingham Town mayor, Councillor Sally Gurney.
She said: “It’s been really lovely to see the number of volunteers here today, and how many organisations involved.
“It’s yet another example of Wokingham’s great community doing what they do best.
“The board looks fabulous.”
Friends of Fox Hill organises conservation sessions and carries out litter picks to improve the area.
The group are keen for more people to join them, and to support their work.
