TWO teachers at a Wokingham school have been shortlisted for a national award for their work.
Dean Ralph and Teresa Mason of Barnardo’s High Close School in Wokingham have been shortlisted for a Silver Teaching Award in the Teacher of the Year and SEN Teacher of the Year categories.
There are just 68 silver award winners in the scheme, dubbed the ‘Oscars for teachers’ – but there were thousands of nominations.
All Silver Award winners were celebrated on last month’s Thank A Teacher Day which took place on Wednesday, June 19, as the Pearson national Teaching Awards marks its 21st year of celebrating excellence in education.
Mr Ralph and Ms Mason were presented with the Pearson Silver Teaching Award trophy at Barnardo’s High Close School to celebrate their outstanding achievement. They were joined at the celebration by Wokingham town mayor, Cllr Lynn Forbes.
Now, they have to wait until October to find out if they will win one of 13 gold awards. The ceremony will be shown on BBC Two’s Britain’s Classroom Heroes programme.
Mark Shears, the principal of High Close School, said: “We were delighted that Dean and Teresa have been recognised for the commitment and dedication they show to the young people who come to this school.
“It is a huge honour and we were thrilled to celebrate this special occasion with them.
“Two other members of staff, Guy Perryman and Tara Nicholas were also nominated for Learning Support Assistant of the year and Primary teacher of the year.
“Again these are incredible achievements and I am privileged to work with such a great team at High Close.”
