Donkeys, dogs and kids at the ready- it’s time for Twyford scout’s annual summer fair.
Entering its 25th year, the Twyford Donkey Derby has an exciting selection of entertainment planned for next month’s event.
Its famous donkey derby will take place throughout the afternoon and include six races which locals are invited to sponsor the contestants of. Sponsorship costs £5 and for winners, champagne is up for grabs.
There is also the option for children aged 10-15- and weighing under eight stone- to ride the animals. Hats and protective equipment will be provided on the day.
John March, Chairman of Twyford Scouts, said: “The donkey races are the highlight of the event. It’s a unique feature for a summer fair which always receives a great reaction.”
Mr March has helped organise the fun day since its establishment in 1994 and has played an active role in the scout group for many years.
He added: “It’s a great event which always succeeds in bringing the whole of the Twyford community together. There’s lots to do at the fair which all ages can enjoy.”
Maidenhead Concert Band will give live performances, while a dog training display will take place in the centre of the recreation ground. There will also be a fun fair for kids to enjoy.
Stalls hosted by local charities, schools and organisations will be on site to promote their work and collect donations. And Dave Turner, mastermind of the town’s record-breaking see saw challenge, is one of the individuals who will be raising money for a special cause.
Refreshments from the food and drinks tent, as well as a barbecue and cold beers will also be available to visitors.
Twyford Scouts Donkey Derby and Summer Fair will take place on June 2 from 1pm at Recreation Ground on Loddon Hall Rd, Twyford. Free entry and programmes will be provided on the day. For more information log on to https://rg10mag.com/event-calendar/twyford-scouts-summer-fair-donkey-derby-june-2019/
