DR PHILLIP LEE became the centre of a political storm on Tuesday morning as he resigned from the Government, ironically over concerns that Parliament wasn’t being allowed to take back control.
It’s a stance because of the frustrations he’s felt as the Government sleepwalks into a Brexit nightmare.
No one can say that the negotiations with Brussels are going well. Here we are just under a year from leaving and no one has the faintest idea of what will happen.
Dr Lee has acted honourably, not just for himself but for the many constituents and businesses who have contacted him to express their fears and concerns that Brexit will be an utter disaster.
Brexit is a divisive subject. Wokingham borough chose to remain, placing it at odds with John Redwood.
The margin of victory was so small, the result could not be declared to be decisive. It could have gone the other way and the Leavers would have been demanding another referendum.
But ultimately, Dr Lee nails the issue: “If I am to look my children in the eye and honestly say that I did my best for them I cannot, in all good conscience, support how our country’s exit from the EU looks set to be delivered.”
Are we on course to deliver the very best for Britain? On current evidence, no.
